Jack Thacker just might be the Most Amazing Man in Long Beach.
After all, he gets on his bike at 8 each morning at his Naples home to begin his 12-mile round trip to the Queen Mary.
He had for years pursued a longer trek to Huntington Beach, but discontinued it earlier this summer because the Second Street project took away his bike lanes.
He takes no pills.
He has no ailments.
He has no arthritic pain.
He has no caretaker.
He is up at 6 each day to raise the American flag on the pole next to his home.
He speaks crisply, hears perfectly and walks flawlessly.
He has two glasses of chardonnay daily.
He had a recent checkup and was told by his doctor, "You're in perfect shape; you'll live to be a 100."
"That got me to thinking," he says with a wry smile. "I mean, that would mean I have only four years left to live."
You see, Jack Thacker is 96 years old – and turns 97 on Oct. 28.
